Dan Wood got his first assignment as a photojournalist for KUSA-TV in Denver in 1979. In the three decades since then, he’s told some amazing, memorable stories and he’s still going strong.
Along with the rest of the KUSA photography staff, Wood has won his share of NPPA awards. He was regional photographer of the year in 1986. But it’s rare for him to step out from behind the camera and talk about his work. It’s also unusual for a station to air a story about one of its own people. But thanks to reporter Chris Vanderveen, both of those things happened:
On the KUSA Web site, a comment about this story sums Wood up as “a consummate professional, caring, a little bit ornery sometimes…lovable and a great story-teller.” Just the kind of photojournalist a station should want to keep around.
