NBCUniversal Local’s Telemundo Responde and NBC Responds consumer investigative units have surpassed $90 million recovered for victims of consumer fraud, theft and abuse since its 2014 inception. In coordination with NBCU Local’s Consumer Investigative Center (CIC), NBC-owned stations have recovered $56 million and Telemundo-owned stations have recovered $34 million over 11 years.
In 2024, NBCU Local’s consumer investigative teams — which operate from 31 Telemundo- and NBC-owned stations across 19 U.S. markets and Puerto Rico — recovered a single-year record $14 million for consumers. In the first three months of 2025, the CIC and Responds / Responde units have recovered nearly $1.9 million for victims and received more than 14,000 requests for help from community members across the nation.
“Our consumer teams serve as valuable resources for those who have been wronged through no fault of their own,” says Kevin Keeshan, EVP of news editorial at NBCUniversal Local. “Their work puts money back in the pockets of victims while protecting others from harm by holding those responsible accountable.”
NBCU Local’s consumer program began in early 2014 with the establishment of the CIC, based in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, and the launch of Telemundo 52 Los Angeles Responde. Over the last 11 years, the CIC has received more than 750,000 requests for help from viewers, NBCU Local says. The most common complaint categories are related to travel, online purchases, home improvements, appliances, and vehicles purchases and repair.
