The new social media app that has teens and young adults hooked is TikTok. TikTok is a video sharing app that allows users to create, share and discover new videos. On the app, users can express their creativity through many different ways such as, singing, dancing, comedy and influencing products.
Today, young people are able to make money and essentially create their own business on social media platforms such as TikTok. For example, social media influencer Lindy Goodson has almost 173k followers on TikTok and 32.1k followers on Instagram.
“I love showing my creativity on social media. It really just started out as something I liked to do for myself then as my followers started growing, it was amazing how quickly people were liking and sharing my posts,” she says.
Goodson says she can make anywhere from $100 to $600 per campaign from creating a TikTok video post or story. Goodson has sponsored partnerships with brands such as Neutrogena, Target, Plato’s Closet and many more. One feature that almost all social media platforms have is a contact area where she receives emails from companies inquiring about potential brand deals.
“It is usually a three step process. First, I will get emails from brands, and they’ll let me know what the campaign entails, then I’ll let them know if I can do it, and finally we’ll discuss a budget,” Goodson says. “There are influencer marketing platforms you can join that make it easy for brands to reach out to you and for you to pitch to brands.”
Unlike Instagram, TikTok gives users more analytical data. TikTok shows the number of views, likes, comments and shares per video for the whole public to see, whereas Instagram has a new feature that can block people from seeing the like count and doesn’t even offer a view count. Also, TikTok is very video based content where Instagram is centered around photo sharing.
“My favorite part about TikTok is the ability to share quick and easy videos,” she says. “I am always doing clothing ‘trying on hauls’ or ‘get ready with me’ videos that I can make and give a few thoughts on my outfit within 60 seconds.”
