WORKSHOPS
NewsLab's executive director, Deborah Potter,
conducts journalism workshops in a variety of settings. We offer
newsroom training on writing, storytelling, ethical decision-making,
and other topics. Workshops range from an hour or two to half-day,
full-day or multiple day sessions. We often provide training at
state, regional and national journalism conferences, and we can
work directly with your newsroom to develop specialized training.
Here's the current schedule, and a brief list
of partner organizations. Among other issues, we have recently
led workshops on:
- The evolving newsroom (new skills, new tools)
- Tough calls (ethical decision-making)
- Web video
- Telling the non-visual story
- Writing to pictures
- Better broadcast writing and storytelling
- Writing for the Web
- Podcasting for print people
- On camera training for print reporters
- Disaster preparation
- Reporting under pressure (crisis coverage)
- Training for journalism trainers
- Standups and live shots
We are an independent non-profit, and provide training for a reasonable
fee.
